Barriers

Teachers were motivated and supported that the class participated in the campaign in an effort to promote change

About half of the class is absent from school almost daily – reasons for absence appear to vary between social factors and disregard for school.

A few individuals in the class emerged as class leaders in the class

Many learners in the class also play truant throughout the day – thus making it difficult for the student to build relationships between learners and with the student

Classrooms are spacious with enough room and seats for all learners

Learners show little respect for each other and this is apparent in the swearing and fighting occurring on a regular basis

Occupations learners engage in on a regular basis include drinking, drugging, partying, and playing soccer.

Difficult home circumstances such as abuse (physical or verbal), violence, and lack of money affect learners’ behaviour.
