Thoughts about the Course Model

26 Jul 2017 3:24 PM Publicly Viewable

Hi Learning Journal

I was able to find the ‘Course Model’ document really easily in the Week 1 folder of the Library. I found the document really clear and easy to read. I liked the way it was laid out with the different levels clearly indicated and I also liked that fact that there was a supporting graphic which clearly showed the “steps” we will be taking during this course.

While the steps seem simple enough, and also gradually build our skills, I did notice that there was no mention of a time-frame for each of these steps. I wonder how long it will take to actually master each of these steps really well ? Or is this an accumulative process, and while on Step 2 you are actually still engaging with and developing Step 1? While the model itself is simple and clear, I will be interested to see how this plays out in a practical environment.

Expectations

Hi there Learning Journal

I have never had to write anything like this before, so this is a completely new experience for me. It actually feels quite weird writing something that someone else is going to read! Thank goodness for the three questions provided otherwise I don’t think I would have known what to write.

What are your feelings about the course before you start?

I am very excited to start this course. I have read all the available information and it seems this is going to be an interesting journey. But I am also a bit nervous about being in this course because I think everyone else will know a lot more than I do. I am just a student so I do not have years of experience, so I am a bit worried about having to put my thoughts out there for everyone to read.

What are your goals and expectations for the course?

My goal is to engage with this course as fully as possible and complete it successfully. I expect that there will be a lot of information and resources provided to us which we will probably have to go through on our own. I hope I can keep up with all the requirements.

How will you know if you have met your goals?

I suppose I will know if I have met my goals if I finish the course and I feel like I have acquired new skills which I can use in my own context. I am not teaching any online courses at the moment but this is an area of interest to me, so I hope to be able to use these skills soon.
