Finding epitrochlear lymphadenopathy

Now continue the search for adenopathy. Look for epitrochlear lymph nodes, which are found on the medial side of the upper arm just above the trochlea.

AFRIKAANS TRANSCRIPT XHOSA
Please hold your arm up for me./ Lig asseblief u arm vir my op en hou dit daar. / Ndicela uphakamise ingalo

Support the patient?s arm as shown. Lightly palpate for the node with the fingers of the other hand.

Watch how this is done.

Now look for inguinal adenopathy. These nodes are felt in the crease of the groin, under the inguinal ligament.

AFRIKAANS TRANSCRIPT XHOSA
I know this examination seems to be taking a long time./ Ek weet dit voel dat die ondersoek lank neem. / Le nto ithatha ixesha elide
I need to feel your groin for any swelling./ Ek moet u lies vir enige swelling ondersoek. / Ndicela ukuva imiphakatho yakho ukuba ayidumbanga na.
May I lift your clothes?/ Mag ek asseblief u klere oplig? / Ndingatyhila iimpahla zakho?

You must have free access to both groins. Ideally the patient should be wearing loose pyjamas or a nightgown. Slip your hand under the waistband of any pyjama bottom or underwear, locate the inguinal ligament and feel for nodes. If clothing is too tight, remove it, and palpate under the sheet so as to avoid uncovering your patient.
