S.T.O.P is a very useful reminder to stop and take care of yourself when you are feeling overwhelmed, or simply irritable with yourself and others.
S = Stop what you are doing.
T = Take a few deep breaths ... try to slow down your breath. It’s difficult to be angry and breathe slowly!
O = Observe. Try to notice what you are feeling and how you are holding your body. What are you thinking? How are you feeling physically and emotionally?
P = Proceed. Continue with your day.
This exercise can take a minute or less. It can be repeated many times during the day - even when things are ordinary (waiting for the kettle to boil) or good (laughing at something funny).
