Gynaecology learning videos

In 2019, a virus that would change the course of history broke out in Wuhan, China. As the months went by, happy global travellers brought the virus home to nearly every country on earth. One of these countries was South Africa. Our government made an early and radical decision to pursue a hard lockdown on xxx. This meant that all schools, universities and shops other than grocery stores were closed. Months of lockdown in some form or another followed. At the University of Cape Town, we were told to prepare for online teaching of undergraduate medical students. Because the lockdown had closed virtually everything, we had to create content from scratch with whatever was in the house. As the Head of the Undergraduate Obstetrics & Gynaecology team, I had a certain vision for our content. I wanted it to fulfil the following criteria:

  • It had to be creative and fun
  • It had to be of high educational quality
  • It had to be good enough to endure beyond lockdown

Because SA has such a range of socioeconomic circumstances, we could not assume that everyone had unlimited or even any access to the internet. Thus, we were asked to fulfil the following criteria from CILT:

  • Videos to be short and compressed
  • Transcripts to be available for all videos
  • No or limited synchronous online teaching.

And so, our little team set to work. What we present here is entirely original videos and resources on various topics in Obstetrics & Gynaecology. Not all topics are shown here, as it we did not use original content for every section.
