Online calculators

Multiple different online calculators are available online or as desktop applications (Scientific, Maths, Graphing, etc) which can be used during a video screen share (in live tutorial sessions or recorded videos) as means to show how to calculate a particular sum. A video could also be made using tools such as Sreencast-o-matic or Loom to record your live demonstration.

How-to guide:

  • Step 1: Share your screen using screen share settings which are usually positioned at the bottom of the screen on the menu bar (Common synchronous tools used: MS Teams and Zoom)

  • Step 2: Log onto or open up the website to where the calculator is.

  • Step 3: Use the online calculator as students will now be able to see what you are doing.

Please note that these online calculators are not zero-rated sites and data is likely to be a serious barrier for some students.

Group settings:

  • Not applicable

Key points:

  • Get familiar with the online calculator's functions before the session as it may be differently programmed.
