Graded Discussion Forums

Your course convener may require that you grade students' contributions in discussion forums. To do so, you must first add the forum as a Gradebook item under the Gradebook tool. Remember to ask your course convener to enable the Gradebook tool. It’s advised to simply grade participation instead of the content of posts since this is not always feasible. In addition, the activity must be added to the Gradebook for it to appear in the drop-down list.

How-to guide:

Example:

  • Please refer to the How-to Guide given in the above section.

Group settings:

  • If your lecturer or course convener has set up the Vula site to use Vula Groups, then the Forums may have separate topics for each Group on the site. If so, check to make sure you and the students in your tutorial group are discussing the correct topic, and that when you are marking any graded discussion forums that you are marking the students in your own group (and not another tutor's students).

Key points:

  • Discussion forums can be added as an item under the Gradebook tool to grade the contributions made by students. If think graded forums would work well for your students, discuss this approach with the course convener and other tutors.
