Assignments Tool

The Assignments tool is very useful in the context of online teaching as it replaces the physical submission of printed or handwritten texts. This tool allows assignment topics to be created, distributed, and collected which the lecturer would most likely do. As a tutor, you may be involved marking of these online assignments and to provide feedback to students.  Assignments are typically private; student submissions are not visible to other users of the site. Assignments may be submitted via file upload or in-line using the Rich Text Editor, depending on preferences. Students can upload images, PDFs and Word documents; where they are struggling to do so,  as a tutor, you may need to assist them.

How to-guide:

Example:

  • Please refer to the How-to Guide given in the above section.

Group settings:

  • If your course site uses Groups, when marking assignments you should only be able to see a list of the students in your own group to mark. If you see other students, or the full class list, check with your lecturer or course convenor if you are supposed to be able to mark students not in your group or if they need to contact Vula Help to check that they have set up Groups correctly.

Key points:

  • This tool allows you to create, distribute, collect and grade online assignments and provide feedback to your students.
  • You can also enable peer evaluation or group work for assignments.
  • Can be linked to the online grader and rubrics / Gradebook  - ask the convenor to enable.
  • You can make use of the Turnitin functionality settings in the Assignment tool which will check plagiarism - please note this is a setting that the lecturer may need to activate when setting up the assignment.
