Chat Room
The Chat Room is a real-time, text-only chat tool within a course site. You can use the Chat Room for synchronous, unstructured conversations with your students who are logged into the site at the same time. Depending on the role that you have been assigned to on the course site by your lecturer, you can choose to create an "Online Office Hours" Chat Room for student questions and answers during discussion-based tutorials. The Chat Room tool alerts users to other participants who have entered the same Chat Room. This way, users know who is available to talk to.
How-to Guide:

Example:
- There are examples provided in the Vula Help documentation here for more information.
Group Settings:
- The Chat Room is open to all the participants added to the site. However, the course convener, lecturers or support staff can add additional Chat Rooms for specific topics or groups.
- Click ‘Change room’ in the top left of the Chat Room window to see if any specific groups have been set up for your tutorial group.
Key Points:
- You can chat in real-time with your students in a Chat Room during discussion-based tutorials. Arrangements need to be made for time and date.
- There can be multiple concurrent Chat Rooms (Note: students may need help finding the one they are supposed to join).
- This tool does not provide a way to chat privately. By default, all messages are visible to all participants - posts are not anonymous.
