INSTRUCTIONS

     What type of guideline should  be established for occupational health  surveillance
     in relation to maganese exposure in the mining industry?

1. Read the recent draft guideline produced by the Department of Minerals and Energy critically.

2. Read two background articles 1 and 2 on the topic of Manganese exposure and surveillance.

3. Draft a concise critique of the DME guideline explaining what you think is wrong with it and why?  Do not exceed more than 2 pages.

4.  Develop your own version of what you feel is an appropriate guideline.  Do not exceed more than 2 pages.
