Module 4: Physiology of the Respiratory System - Essential Anatomy of the Airways.

Essential Anatomy of the Airways:

The airways of the lung make up a dichotomous branching system of 22 generations.

The first fifteen generations are conducting airways and are supported by cartilage. Subsequent generations of airways are supported mainly by the elastic recoil of the lung.

The terminal bronchiole supplies a lobule of the lung, together with an arteriole a venule and lymphatics.
