Lung Volumes In Obstructive And Restrictive Abnormalities:

The figure above illustrates some of the important changes in lung volumes that may be encountered in obstructive and restrictive lung diseases.

In airflow obstruction, air trapping results in an increase in residual volume (RV) and vital capacity (VC) may be normal or reduced. Total lung capacity (TLC) is increased.

In restriction TLC is reduced and therefore RV and VC are correspondingly reduced.
