EPI2-1: Measures of Occurrence: Prevalence

OBJECTIVES

At the end of this session you have have some knowledge of the meaning of prevalence as a measure of occurrence and you should know when it can be measured and how to calculate it.

PREVALENCE:

Measures of disease occurrence can describe either the pool of existing cases, or the occurrence of new cases.

Measures of prevalence describe what proportion of the population has the disease in question at one specific point in time.
