Heating And Cooling System Strategies

Heating and Cooling System Strategies

This building does not need to be heated due to the fact it is located in Guangzhou China which has an average yearly temperature of about 22◦c. This made the architects of this building focus on the cooling aspect instead of heating. The system used in cooling the interior spaces of this building is called radiant cooling. The ceilings of the building are made of metal panels and within them are pipes that pass chilled water. The use of this system reduced the height of every floor in the building by about 300mm because the duct space did not have to be as deep as one which carries air conditioning ducting. Due to the high conductivity of metals the interior spaces of the building easily pass the temperature to the pipes thus making them cool. The graph below shows the maximum and minimum temperatures experienced in Guanghou. The graph further reinforces that this is a climate that does not need heating.
