| | The Graduate School of Medicine and the Faculty of Medicine take pride in their heritage as the oldest institution of medical education and research in Japan. The institution was founded in May 1858 (the 5th year of Ansei) as a smallpox vaccination clinic in Kanda Mitamagaike. |
