VOCATIONAL REHABILITATION:
Vocational rehabilitation may be defined as the co-ordinated activity that is:
- Directed towards an individual with or at risk for chronic/permanent activity limitation and/or participation restriction in the area of work.
- Intended to restore an individual’s working or functional capacity to its maximum.
- Include measures aimed at developing an individual’s own abilities/resources and/or removing obstacles imposed by the environment.
- Concentrates on identifying and supporting individual strengths and preparing an individual for active participation in the work arena.
Why should such a process be put in place?
- Enables early return to work.
- Limits disability payments.
- Restores and maintains productivity.
What are the basic principles guiding the process?
- Active participation of the worker.
- Timing of the return to work.
