8.2 Investigating The Environment And Confirmation Of Causative Agent:

• workplace inspection: risk assessment;
• evaluate material safety data sheets;

• check schedule 3 of COIDA for agents causing occupational asthma (Table IVa), extrinsic allergic alveolitis, contact allergic dermatitis, lung fibrosis;

• published reports/lists/databases in the literature;
• environmental monitoring (Burkard Personal sampler: moulds or pollens; ELISA inhibition tests for specific allergens).

9. MANAGEMENT:

• Remove affected worker from exposure and placement;
• Treatment (steroids);
• Submit a COIDA claim;
• Notify the DOL;
• Minimise or control exposure;
• Surveillance of workplace and workforce;
• industrial hygiene;
• medical surveillance (COSHH regs of the HSE).
