TOX 6.2: General Administrative Regulations

A) GENERAL ADMINISTRATIVE REGULATIONS

IMPORTANT SECTIONS PERTAINING TO OCCUPATIONAL DISEASES:

Section 6: Reporting of incidents and occupational diseases
Section 7: Handling hazardous chemical substances.

REPORTING PROCEDURES:

• Employer to report any incident within 7 days (unless a fatal emergency) to the provincial director in the Department of Labour using:
  - WCL 1 (Employer’s Report of an Occupational Disease - Click on "Rules and Particulars" and look at point 7) or
  - WCL 2 (Employer’s Report of Accident - Click on "Rules and Particulars" and look at point 5);

• Medical practitioner to report the diagnosis of an occupational disease to the chief inspector in the Department of Labour within 15 days of the examination using WCL 22 (First Medical Report in Respect of an Occupational Disease - Click on "Rules and Particulars" and look at point 10);

• A nurse or any other person may give notice to the employer and the chief inspector.

HANDLING HAZARDOUS CHEMICAL SUBSTANCES:

• Manufacturers of hazardous chemical substances must provide a material safety data sheet (MSDS) when selling/supplying a product to an employer ( a prototype is available in Annexure 1);

• Employer to have in possession a copy of an MSDS;

• Employer must make available any information on MSDS to workers or any other affected person.
