Answer to Exercise 1

Obtain a detailed history from Mrs B including the following: general medical history, lifestyle habits, work history and reproductive history. The reproductive history should include menstrual function, past pelvic surgery or gynaecological procedures, pregnancy and birth outcomes, sexually transmitted diseases, contraception, and familial illness.

The physical examination should assess her overall health status. You should ask for any available medical reports and refer her for a full refer full obstetric and gynaecological assessment at an early stage in the pregnancy.
