Dr Pallo Jordan speaks about the events in Egypt and how it relates to politics
in Africa and South Africa. He also speaks about how modern communications
technology is a two sided instrument that can either harnessed for social good
or for terrible mischief and uses the example of the role of technology in the
Egyptian Revolution, in South Africa and the USA.
EVENTS THAT LED TO THE REVOLT IN EGYPT
Dr Shamil Jeppie speaks about the events leading up the revolt in Egypt. He
comments on the class divide and the mass differentiation between upper
class neighbourhoods and working class suburbs in Egypt. In addition, he speaks
about past unreported worker labour actions and massive insurrection by town
dwellers in the delta area.
ROLE OF MEDIA IN EGYPTIAN REVOLUTION AND PERSONAL REFLECTION
Dr Ibrahim Saleh speaks about the political communication surrounding the
revolt in Egypt. He shares his thoughts about things that he feels have been
discarded and marginalized in the media. He also provides some of his personal
reflections about the situation as an Egyptian citizen.
ROLE OF ISLAM AND POLITICS IN MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD
Prof Abdulkader Tayob speaks about the lesser role of religion in the revolution in
Egypt and Tunisia and the ways in which religion was represented. In addition, he
speaks about the solidarity amongst Egyptians of different religions. Lastly, he
comments about political islam in the Egyptian revolution and the history and place
